My name is Robert Snell, my friends call me Robert :).
Yes, I know you were expecting time and friendships would have shortened it to either Rob or Bob, but apparently Bob does not go with someone who “cooks sushi as well as I do”. That’s a quote from one of my friends, but I would have to agree: I love sushi and I roll a killer maki.
My father was a lieutenant with the marines which meant we moved a lot when I was growing up and I spent a lot of time with my mom. However, my father would always try to be home for dinner. In the first place he wanted to spend time with us, but secondly, he loved my mother’s cooking. That almost naturally got me interested in cooking. It was a great way to have fun with my mom and also to impress my dad who never seemed that interested that I follow in his footsteps.
As you will see if you check out my recipes, I have spent a lot of time in the south, and I picked up a lot of cooking influences from there. But then we spent about 2 years, since I turned 12 to about my 14th birthday in Japan and their clean, simple style of cooking has also influenced me a lot. I still aim for the strong, full flavor of the American south, but I try to do it with as little ingredients and in as little time as possible.
