If you are looking for an even cheaper deal, we would recommend the Hamilton Beach 74250 double serrated electric knife. It too comes with its own storage box, only this one is made of plastic so it does not look as good. The biggest difference between it and its big brother, the Hamilton Beach 74275R, is the fact that the Hamilton Beach 74250 uses a double blade configuration. It cuts just as easily through any type of meat, and it will cut perfectly thing slices of bread without crumbling the bread, so the only real problem with a double blade is the fact that you will have to wash it by hand as it is not dish washer safe. Otherwise the trigger is perfectly positioned and the body of the knife feels sturdy and well balanced in the hand.

There is an alternative to the Hamilton Beach 74250 for a cheap yet sturdy electric knife and it comes from Black & Decker. The EK700 is a high quality double serrated knife that can cut through the toughest meat with ease. It does come with its own carrying case, alas, it is a plastic one, but if all you care is the quality of the cut, you will certainly be impressed by it. Of course the price, and the fact that it is made by Black & Decker, which is a guarantee of reliability, are the best features of this knife. However, there are other things to consider like the non slip handle of the knife, and the easy to remove blade system, and the fact that, although the blade itself is only 7 inches, because there is a 2 inch tang right in front of the handle, you can actually make 9 inches deep cuts.

At the other end of the price range from the Black & Decker you have the Cuisinart CEK-40 electric knife. Although we feel it is a bit too expensive to be our first choice, we do have to admit that you instantly get a feeling of high end quality from the moment you open the box. First of all, from a technical perspective, we have to admit that having a bread only blade and a meat blade, does greatly improve the cutting capabilities of the knife. Second, with the knife you get a butcher block holding tray that not only looks the part in any modern kitchen, but also makes using the knife that much easier on a day to day basis. It would be redundant at this point to mention that, of course, the blades are stainless steel, but the one thing we have to highlight is the fact that the workmanship that went into the manufacture of everything from the knife handle to the holding tray is of the very best quality.
5. Oster FPSTEK2803B Electric Knife

Finally, we had to also feature the Oster FPSTEK2803B electric knife because of its most interesting feature, the special cutting tip designed for hard to carve areas like the one close to the breast bone. It does come at a high end price and therefore both the workmanship and the accessories that come with the knife are exceptional. You do only get a single blade and a carving fork, but the carrying case does look very well indeed. The only question you have to ask yourself, if you are willing to spend this kind of money for an electric knife, is if you need to be able to cut very cleanly in those hard to carve areas that the Oster allows you to reach, or if you should go for the beautiful display case and different bread and meat blade system of the Cuisinart.
