The first thing that you need to know about it is that it is a large 22 quart oven, capable of handling even the largest Thanksgiving day turkeys or Christmas briskets. The pan has an enamel coating over a thick layer of steel which distributes the heat perfectly over the entire surface of the meat. The upshot of that enamel coating is that this is also an incredibly easy to clean oven. But the feature that really sets apart the Oster CKSTRS23-SB electric roaster from anything else out there is the self basting lid. As you probably know, the more often you baste the meat, the juicier it will become, and with a self basting lid that process is done automatically for you. It too uses an enamel on steel roasting pan that you can remove and clean, and it comes with a roasting rack that can easily be taken out of the pan and to the table. The one thing that you must note about the Rival RO180is that it is an 18 quart oven so it will only fit an 18 pounds turkey. That is still more than enough for a big family Thanksgiving dinner, but if you regularly invite a lot of friend together with your family, than this will not cut it.

If you still need a 22 quart roasting oven, but would like to pay less than 100 dollars for it, an interesting alternative is the Hamilton Beach 32229. What they did, in order to keep the price down, was they gave up on the enamel coating on the pan, but, since they did include the roasting rack, the pan should still be relatively easy to clean. Also, because this is essentially a small oven, the heat distribution, although not as good as the one on the Oster CKSTRS23-SB is still more than adequate. In fact, if you decide to use baking paper, you can even use the Hamilton Beach electric roaster to cook any type of baking goods, and the heat distribution should still be better than your home oven.

The Nesco 4818-14 is an 18 quart electric roaster, that cost a couple of bucks more than the Hamilton Beach we have talked about, but, if you do not need such a huge oven, it is definitely worth the money. Not only does it come with an porcelain cookwell, similar to the one on the Rival oven, but it also has an extra heating element called a “Circle of Heat” the further improves the distribution of heat over the meat. As you probably have worked out, though, the Nesco is almost twice as expensive as the Rival, but, if you take into consideration the fact that it also has a self basting cover, you will realize that feature per feature, this is the cheapest oven you could find.

It is an 18 quart electric roaster, so somewhat on the small side, and, although it does have an enamel on steel pot, and a cooking rack, it does not have the self basting lid the Nesco has. However, the reason why we still think it is worth the money is because of the extra detail they have put into the heat selection options that, coupled with the specially designed wood chip pockets, turn the Oster CKSTROSMK into the perfect outdoor smoker. Of course, if you do not need a smoker, you should go with Nesco, but if you enjoy hunting or fishing, you absolutely have to try home cured, smoked meat.
