If there is one truth that both vegetarian and meat eating nutritionists agree on, it is that processed meat goods are the unhealthiest thing you could eat. There is also the fact that any chef will tell you that a homemade sausage, even on your first try, will taste better than any high end product you could buy, simply because you can afford not to add any preservatives and the meat you will be using is completely fresh. Of course, there is the fact that, making your own sausages takes a lot more time than just buying them, but, if you enjoy hunting or even fishing, there simply is no responsible way of dealing with all that meat except for storing it yourself. So whether you need to buy your raw meat or you hunt it yourself, you will need to check out the following list containing the best sausage stuffers on the market today. We have had to choose more than one product because each of our choices has something different to offer its users, so we encourage you to scroll down past the list itself to find our in depth reviews and the reasons why we took that product to be one of the best.
1. VIVO Stainless Steel Vertical Sausage Stuffer

Here at Kitchen Gadgets Wars we know that sometime the best product on the market has to be the one that is affordable and can get the job done rather than being the fanciest or the one with the most fans. In other words we are looking for the Android of kitchen gadgets first and only then do we also consider the Apple, and nowhere is that more true than in our search for the best sausage stuffer. The VIVO Stainless Steel Vertical Sausage Stuffer is definitely the underdog in this war and, as you will see, we have moved the one product that most people seem to love to the number 3 spot on our list. The reason why we love the VIVO Stainless Steel Vertical Sausage Stuffer is because it is very reasonably priced and the quality of manufacture that went into making it is undeniable. There is also the fact that it can take up to 7 pounds of meat in one go, and, when you are stuffing sausages, you tend to waste the most time in the loading the meat part of the process. There is also the fact that the piston and the gears are made entire from metal – and you will see in a minute why we are highlighting that fact – and the cylinder itself is made from stainless steel. The piston is precisely manufactured and flows very well inside the cylinder without letting any meat escape. So, taking all that into consideration, there is really no better sausage stuffer on the market today.
2. Sportsman MHSS5 5-Pound Sausage Stuffer

Of course, just because the VIVO is our number one choice does not mean we are not going to pay close attention to an interesting gadget like the Sportsman MHSS5 5-Pound Sausage Stuffer. As you can see just by looking at it the Sportsman stuffer is not your average product. First of all, it is priced well below your average sausage stuffer. Second, it is a much smaller design, much more streamline, so easier to carry with you on a boat or on a hunting trip. However, that is about where the advantages stop with this stuffer. Not having gears is a great advantage in terms of reducing size and weight but then you have to use a lot of strength to push the meat through. There is also the fact that the piston is not perfectly machined so part of the meat escapes by its sides and you will need to keep cleaning it up and placing it back into the machine. So, interesting as it may be, this is the sausage stuffer that you should get only if you only process about 10 to 20 pounds of meat per year and really do not mind the extra work.
3. LEM Vertical Stainless Steel Sausage Stuffer

Finally, we arrive at the Apple of sausage stuffers, the LEM Products offer. If you have ever seen someone else make sausages or if you yourself have owned a sausage stuffer in the past chances are good that it was a LEM. It is definitely one of the best products on the market but it is our opinion that it is not the best. For one it is just a 5 pound stuffer, and it costs more than many 7 pounds stuffers. For another, it has a plastic cylinder which, although definitely not in danger of ever rusting over, is a lot more flimsy than the metal one you can find on the VIVO. The one advantage it has are the small holes that were designed to let the air escape and keep the meat in, that really did impress us, but not enough to make this our number one choice.
4. Weston Manual Vertical Sausage Stuffer

If you are willing to spend the kind of money you would have to when buying the LEM, then we would suggest going for the Weston Manual Vertical Sausage Stuffer. It is a 7 pound cylinder, so you can get a lot more done in just one go. It is also worth the extra money over the VEVO because it has a 2 gear system so you can push out more meat if the going is easy, and you can set it on a lower, power focus setting if you are using chunkier meat and smaller sausage casings. You also have a pressure release valve that works pretty much the same as the holes you have in the LEM piston.
5. HomCom 7lb Vertical Sausage Stuffer

Finally we have arrived at the most affordable, big boy sausage stuffer, the HomCom. Again we have a 7 pound stainless steel cylinder, with metal gears and a metal plunger. In the model we tried out, the meat came through beautifully and we were very satisfied with it. Considering that it is actually even cheaper than the VEVO, you would be right to ask why we have not set this as our favorite product on this list. The answer is actually quite simple: it has virtually no track record, so we cannot be sure that their manufacturing process is streamlined enough that every product will come out flawlessly, or, if you happen to receive a bad product, that their help line will actually be of any help. It may be, or you may be as lucky as we were and get a flawless product, but since the difference is only of a few dollars we decided to go with the VEVO as our number one choice.
